  • Mending Wings Dancing Our Prayers

    April 11 | 2 PM | Museum admission |

Mending Wings is a non-profit organization that seeks to empower Indigenous youth, through leadership development, spirituality and honoring Yakama culture. The Yakama Nation is one of America's 575 federally recognized tribes, located in south-central Washington State.

The program they will present at MAAIM on April 11th is called Dancing Our Prayers. This group of Yakama young people travel across the United States to share Christ and culture. They dance, drum, and give a message for hope and reconciliation between the church and the Indigenous Peoples of America.

Dancing Our Prayers are teams of Native teens who travel locally, regionally and nationally sharing their culture, spirituality and way of life. The youth and staff of Mending Wings drum and dance in full regalia, perform drama, give testimony and speak on conciliation issues between Native and non-Native America.

Their goal is to build relationships and educate people who have no idea how Native People worship or why they worship the way they do. The goal of Mending Wings: to pray, to dance and to heal.

The MAAIM performance will be held in the museum's Gallery of Nations on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at 2:00pm. The cost of performance will be the price of musuem admission. Mending Wings is a nonprofit organization. Additionally, donations will be accepted to help defray the group's travel costs.
